Getting Around San Antonio

All events are in the Downtown/Riverwalk area. The rehearsal dinner location, the Buckhorn, is just about four blocks from the wedding and brunch hotel, the Westin. All of the hotels where we have blocks of rooms (except for the Hawthorn) are also no more than a handful of blocks away.

Although your concierge should be able to direct you, we will provide walking directions from these hotels when you arrive. Taxi cabs can be arranged by the hotels or by calling (210) 222-2222 or (210) 444-2222.

For those driving to San Antonio, there are a number of street spots and garages in the area. Two city-owned garages are the Riverbend Garage at 240 E. Houston Street (between N. Saint Mary's Street and Navarro Street) and MidCity Garage at 210 N. Presa Street (at W. Market Street). Valet parking is available at the Westin.

Weekend Attire

In case you are wondering about the weather, February in San Antonio is unpredictable. Average high temperatures for the month are in the high 60s, and average low temperatures are in the low 40s. Locals warn it can jump from 30 degrees to 80 degrees! So far the winter has been warm and dry...but you may want to pack an umbrella just in case.

In case you are wondering about the attire, here is a quick guide:

• Rehearsal Dinner: Casual. Along the lines of khakis and a shirt for men, pants or comfortable dresses for women.
• Wedding: Cocktail. Suits for men, cocktail dresses for women--or the equivalent.
• Brunch: Very casual. Come as you are! We know that many of you have a long day of traveling ahead.

Getting to San Antonio

Many airlines serve the San Antonio airport. Southwest is the most common carrier, followed by Continental, American, and Northwest Airlines. Other options include Frontier, Delta, United, and Midwest Airlines.

For those flying from the New York area on Saturday, unfortunately the one non-stop flight recently changed and does not arrive until too late in the evening for travelers to make the rehearsal dinner. However, there are several one-stop choices.

Also, JetBlue flies direct to Austin from some cities. Austin is about an hour (and easy) drive to San Antonio.

The airport is only about 10 miles from the Downtown/Riverwalk area, where most of the festivities will take place. Taxis from the airport should run about $20. SA Trans Airport Express shuttles drop off at various downtown hotels for $14 (but the shuttle trip can take up to 45 minutes).

Hotel Reservation Information

Hotels book fast in San Antonio, and we already know of one very large convention in town the same weekend as the wedding, so we encourage you to make your reservations soon.

We have organized group blocks at a few hotels, all near or on the Riverwalk. For each of these, please mention the Spitzberg/Shedroff wedding to receive the group rate. Most of these rates are only available until January 15.

• The block at the Westin Riverwalk is almost sold out. The Westin is where the wedding will take place, so it is certainly a convenient option! The group rate of $189 may no longer be available; remaining rooms are $239 a night. Please call 1-888-627-8396.
• We also have rooms at the Sheraton Gunter, which is a good value at $159 a night. The Gunter is about four blocks from the Westin. Their number is 1-800-325-3535.
• The Hotel Contessa (1-866-435-0900) is a new and well regarded all-suite hotel on the river right next door to the Westin. Our room rate is $199 (and up).
• And finally (for now), the Hawthorn Inn & Suites (210-529-1700) is a budget hotel about one mile away from the Westin. Their rooms are $129 a night.
